Cooling in solar systems matters a lot, especially for those photovoltaic setups and the thermal ones too, just to keep things running without getting too hot and losing power.
In PV panels, sunlight turns into electricity, but a bunch of it just heats up the panels instead. That excess heat drops the efficiency, like it falls about 0.4 to 0.5 percent for every degree over 25 degrees Celsius. It stresses the materials, makes them wear out quicker. I think thats the main worry there.
Then theres concentrated solar power, where they use mirrors or lenses to bunch up the sun on some fluid, heat it up, and make steam for the turbines.
Managing heat is key, or the fluids get too hot, and the turbines or storage do not work right. It seems like without good control, the whole system suffers.
For cooling, passive ways rely on natural stuff like air moving around or just radiating heat away. You can space the panels so breeze flows through, or put on coatings that reflect more light and absorb less. Heat sinks help conduct it off too. These are easy and cheap, but they only go so far, mostly good for smaller home systems or something.
Active cooling comes in for bigger plants that need high performance.
