Chiller cooling condenser coils seem like a big deal in industrial systems. They handle getting rid of heat from buildings or processes by sending it out to the air outside. I mean, they are kind of the main part where all that happens.
In chillers, these coils take in the hot refrigerant vapor thats coming from the compressor under pressure. The vapor gets de superheated first. Then it condenses into liquid as the heat leaves it. Sometimes the liquid gets a bit subcooled before going to the next part, like the expansion device. That process defines the types of chillers based on what absorbs the heat.
There are two main kinds, but the text focuses on water cooled ones. Those use a shell and tube setup, which is the standard efficient way for industry. The condenser acts as a pressure vessel with tubes inside.
Refrigerant flows on the shell side. Water from a cooling tower goes through the tubes to pick up the heat. Its called condenser water, and it gets pumped in cooled. After taking the heat, the water heads back to the tower where evaporation cools it down again. That cycle keeps things going.
